How bad is the gore in the movie 'The thing'?

I'm really scared to see John Carpenter's The thing. A lot of people say it's scary and extremely gory. Is it true? I really want to see it but I'm very scared. I've seen The shining, the texas chain saw macre, child's play, friday the 13th, a nightmare on elm street, jaws, the exorcist, the silence of the lambs, hills have eyes, and all the saw movies.
